Introduction and background of brick and block:
-both brick and concrete classified as masonry work
-masonry work are high durability
-usually used on vertical structural element
-example of brickwork around the world
Bricks
Type of bricks:
(a)Clay brick
(i)face brick-better quality,durable,good appearance&suit for
exposed walls surface
(ii)Clinker brick-overburn in klin,irregular in shape,rough&hard
(iii)Pressed brick-made by dry-pressed process,sharp corner,similar
as face brick
(iv)Fire brick-made by uniform and very pure clay that may
withstand high temperature
(b)Calcium silicate bricks
-great extent of moisture movement
-excellent heat&sound insulation properties
-high resistant to fire
-mostly smooth white surface based on aggregate used
-suitable for pigment to make it as different colour
-Process of making calcium silicate bricks:
- made by blenches of sand and stone with highly silica content (lime used as binder)
- compacted to shape under massive pressure
- baked 200 ° c for 8hours(autoclaving)
(c)Concrete Brick
-made from solid concrete
-harder than others bricks
-block from exterior noise&suitable for build for house
-lower maintenance fees
-drying shirinkage varies considerably
Additional sample of manufacture these 3bricks:
It is a company that promotes sustainable development through the manufacture and supply of arguably the most energy efficient and environmental friendly concrete products available to the market .
They recycle construction and demolition material back into sand and stone aggregate , and then uses this material to make concrete bricks and blocks .This method manage to substitute up to 70% recycled aggregates into the material mix of new brick and therefore making an enormous environmental saving .
Below is the video on how this environmental friendly concrete bricks are made ....
